The increasing trend of non-ballistic injuries among safety, security and defence operatives in Nigeria, occasioned by the multiplicity of non-ballistic weapons, disasters, cult and occult skirmishes, ethno religious face offs, terrorism, political hoodlumism and generally rising insecurity in Nigeria, the African continent and beyond, have necessitated the need for special Personal Protection Equipment and gadgets, specifically designed to protect against head bumps and impacts that may otherwise result in severe head traumas during special operations like crowd control, tactical training and simulation exercises, non-gun fire combat operations, search and rescue operations, dispatch riding and escort duty, among others. These special protective helmets are also indispensable in special cases like night time operations where it becomes very necessary to mount equipment like night vision goggles, body cameras and riot control visors.
However most of helmet imported and a little heavy and the ones manufactured in Nigeria using hand-lay-up are inconsistent in weight resulting from uneven distribution of matrix and reinforcement in the helmet It is due to the foregone that this project is aimed at researching and developing an automated hydraulic press mound, two full functional prototypes for non-ballistic helmets that can be mass produced in Nigeria to offer easy access to light weight Personal Protective Equipment for safety, security and defense personnel in the country and the rest of Africa.
